Sealing
Plastic materials for valve seats, seals, and gaskets
Plastic sealing materials are used in valves, regulators, and seals where low friction, wear resistance, chemical resistance, dimensional stability, and service temperature can affect performance. Common sealing applications include valve seats, seals, gaskets, backup rings, wear components, and parts used in fluid handling, industrial equipment, aerospace, food processing, and chemical processing environments.
Material selection depends on pressure, temperature, media exposure, friction, wear, creep resistance, thermal expansion, and whether the application involves high or low service temperatures. PTFE is often considered where low friction and chemical resistance are important, while PEEK may be used for higher temperature, higher load, or more demanding sealing applications. UHMW and acetal may also be considered depending on the operating conditions and component design.
