Torlon® PAI
Extremely strong, stiff, dimensionally stable plastic material often used in elevated temperature environments
About Torlon® PAI
Torlon® PAI (polyamide-imide) is an extremely strong and stiff plastic material. It is often used in elevated temperature environments where other thermoplastics would lose their mechanical properties.
Torlon® PAI is a very dimensionally stable material with an extremely low coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) making it an excellent choice for applications that require machining to tight tolerances. It is available in a variety of formulations.
Length, width, thickness, and diameter tolerances vary by size, by manufacturer, brand, and grade. Custom sizes available upon request.
Torlon® PAI Properties and Material Options
Unfilled/Electrical Grade Torlon® PAI– Duratron® T4203 PAI has extremely high dielectric strength and it is often used for applications where it functions as an electrical insulator. It offers high-temperature resistance, dimensional stability, and exceptional machinability, and it is often used for precision parts in high-tech equipment. Its ability to bear high loads over a broad temperature range also makes it ideal for structural components such as linkages and seal rings, as well as an excellent choice for wear applications involving impact loading and abrasive wear.
Bearing Grade Torlon® PAI– Duratron® T4301 PAI is a graphite-filled polyamide-imide offering a very low expansion rate and coefficient of friction, exhibiting little to no slip-stick. The addition of PTFE and graphite provides higher wear resistance compared to the unfilled Duratron® T4203 PAI grade, and also gives Duratron® T4301 PAI excellent dimensional stability capabilities over a wide temperature range. It’s flexural modulus of 1,000,000 psi is higher than most other advanced engineering plastics, which allows it to excel in severe service wear applications such as non-lubricated bearings, seals, bearing cages, and reciprocating compressor parts.
