Metal Detectable Acetal Ensures Product Quality
SUSTARIN® C MDT allows metal detection equipment to detect plastic contamination in processing line
Recently, a major food processor had to recall their product due to plastic shavings entering the production line. During the processing of food products, small plastic or metal shavings from a processing machine can find their way into the food item and pose a serious health risk.
Ordinarily, plastic materials do not register on metal detection equipment so it is not uncommon to hear about plastic particles entering processed foods.
FDA compliant material
To address the problem Curbell recommended the evaluation of a special grade of metal detectable acetal (SUSTARIN® C MDT). This FDA compliant material helped the food processor ensure product quality since plastic contamination from their machinery would now be detected by their existing metal detection equipment.
Variation in detection systems
The SUSTARIN®C MDT acetal material has special additives that allow it to be traced by standard metal detectors to avoid further contamination. It is the responsibility of the user to test and approve the metal detection of this product due to variations in the metal detection system and required sensitivity settings.
