A manufacturer of luxury buses needed a tough, durable material for the interiors of their next generation charter coaches. Traditional FRP (fiber reinforced plastics) were prone to chipping during use and FRPs lacked the aesthetic qualities that the manufacturer was looking for.
FMVSS compliant material that is tough, durable, and attractive
The designers wanted to use materials that complied with FMVSS (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard) 302 and FTA (Federal Transit Administration) requirements for smoke emissions and flammability.
The bus manufacturer chose KYDEX® 6200 high performance thermoplastic sheet for the seatbacks, armrests, wall panels, and window reveals. The material is tough and durable and it has excellent aesthetic qualities. It also resists abrasion and graffiti and it stands up to a wide variety of cleaning chemicals without staining or fading.
KYDEX® 6200 is available in virtually limitless color options with a number of beautiful surface textures so the designers were able to use an extensive color pallete to achieve the color scheme they were looking for.
