Western New York Sustainable Business Roundtable Recognizes Curbell with Top Honors
Orchard Park, N.Y., December 19, 2023
Curbell Plastics, Inc., one of the nation’s top suppliers of plastic sheet, rod, tube, tapes, and fabricated parts, was honored with two awards by the Western New York Sustainable Business Roundtable (SBR). A Platinum level certification for their sustainability program, and Board of Directors Choice for their project submittal. SBR is a group of over 70 public and private sector organizations across the Western New York region, who work together to demonstrate how area businesses can integrate sustainability into their operations.
Curbell was one of only four organizations to receive Platinum level certification for their overall sustainability program. This was based upon previous years metrics and included all areas of business sustainability; waste management, pollution, water, and energy and resource management.
The Board of Directors’ Choice Award is reserved for a project that demonstrates the values of SBR at the highest level. The member company to receive this award must be a model in environmental stewardship, business acumen and community service, and their project must have reached silver certification.
Propelling Curbell to the win was a year-long effort to align their actions with internationally recognized environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles. Rooted in their core values, the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, and the Global Compact, Curbell executed a comprehensive restructuring of internal and external policies. They extended their commitment across all facets of the organization by establishing an ESG Team, introducing new quantifiable metrics, and setting fresh goals in areas such as ethics, procurement, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and sustainable development.
Their primary objectives for the year were to internalize ESG principles and share them with key business partners, build a robust infrastructure for continuous improvement, create a foundation for measurement and goal setting, and position Curbell on a global scale as a benchmark for ESG efforts. In 2023 Curbell partnered with EcoVadis to measure their sustainability journey compared to peers in similar industries. In a survey conducted by EcoVadis of 100,000 companies across 175 countries and 200 industries, Curbell, Inc. and all subsidiaries earned a Silver rating, placing them in the top 25% of companies assessed.
Mark Shriver, Director of Safety & Environmental Affairs for Curbell commented, “As environmental and social expectations on businesses evolve, Curbell’s focus on being a good corporate citizen continues to grow. While we strive to be the best choice for our customers, we also understand the environmental, social, and economic impact Curbell has on the people and communities in which we operate. The progression of our sustainability program reflects that understanding and clearly measures and states the good things we are doing while recognizing areas where we want to improve. It’s part of our core values, who we are, and it’s simply, the right thing to do. Recognition for our efforts by our peers in the Sustainable Business Roundtable is so inspiring and truly means a great deal.”
