Curbell Plastics' Polycarbonate Donation Helps Safeguard Camden County's Free Little Libraries

Orchard Park, N.Y., September 17, 2024

Curbell Plastics, Inc., a leading supplier of high-quality plastic sheet, rod, tube, tapes, and fabricated parts, has made a significant donation to The Free Books Project through its Moorestown, NJ location. The donation consists of durable polycarbonate sheets used to construct and maintain "Book Arks"—free, community-based mini-libraries placed across Camden County, NJ.

These Book Arks are more than just book-sharing kiosks; they represent a grassroots initiative to spark a love of reading and build community. The little libraries are available 24/7, inviting residents to take, borrow, or donate books at no cost, fostering both literacy and connection.

Curbell's polycarbonate sheets will replace the broken acrylic panels that had been used in the windows of these little libraries, ensuring that the books and the structures themselves are better protected from the elements. The polycarbonate, known for its superior strength and durability compared to traditional acrylic (plexiglass), will help extend the life of the Book Arks.

“We’re thrilled to support such a powerful, community-focused initiative,” said Michael Cranston, Business Manager at Curbell Plastics. “When Tom Martin, the Director of The Free Books Project, mentioned that replacing the broken acrylic windows was one of their major ongoing expenses, we knew Curbell could step in and help. Polycarbonate is much stronger and more weather-resistant, meaning these Book Arks will be more resilient and last longer. It’s gratifying to know that our donation will have a lasting impact in the community.”
