Stereolithography (SLA) resins are liquid UV-curable photopolymers used in this process. SOMOS® STEREOLITHOGRAPHY (SLA) RESIN OPTIONS
Somos® 9120 (off white)– is a liquid photopolymer that produces robust, functional and accurate parts using stereolithography machines. The material offers superior chemical resistance and a wide processing latitude. With mechanical properties that mimic many engineering plastics, parts created from Somos® 9120 exhibit superior fatigue properties, strong memory retention and high quality up-facing and down-facing surfaces. Somos® 9120 also offers a good balance of properties between rigidity and functionality. This photopolymer is used in solid imaging processes, like stereolithography, to build three-dimensional parts. This material is also useful in creating parts for applications where durability and robustness are critical requirements like automobile components, electronic housings, medical products, large panels, and snap-fit parts.
Somos® 9420 (off white)– is a liquid photopolymer that produces robust, functional and accurate parts using stereolithography machines. The material offers superior chemical resistance and a wide processing latitude. With mechanical properties that mimic many engineering plastics, parts created from Somos® 9420 exhibit superior fatigue resistance, strong memory retention and high quality up-facing and down-facing surfaces. Somos® 9420 also offers a good balance of properties between rigidity and functionality. This photopolymer is used in solid imaging processes, like stereolithography, to build three-dimensional parts. This material is also useful in creating parts for applications where durability and robustness are critical requirements such as automobile components, electronic housings, medical products, large panels, and snap-fit parts.
Somos® NanoTool (off white)– produces strong, stiff, high temperature resistant composite parts on conventional stereolithography machines. This material is heavily filled with non-crystalline nanoparticles allowing for faster processing. It exhibits superior sidewall quality, along with excellent detail resolution compared to other composite stereolithography materials. Somos® NanoTool’s smooth surface quality and high initial modulus make it an excellent resin for metal plating—a growing application which saves time and money as an alternative to metal prototypes. It’s also ideal for creating strong, stiff parts with excellent high heat resistance, including wind tunnel models for aerospace and automotive applications, as well as rapid tooling for injection molding.
Somos® NeXt (white)– is an extremely durable stereolithography resin that produces very accurate parts with high feature detail. Based on the Somos® DMX technology, Somos® NeXt is a next generation of material that facilitates the production of tough, complex parts with improved moisture resistance and greater thermal properties. Somos® NeXt produces parts that are much more resistant to breakage than parts made with standard SL resins. It is ideal for use in functional testing applications as well as low-volume manufacturing applications where toughness is required. Market segments include aerospace, automotive, medical, consumer products and electronics. This resin is ideal for functional end-use performance prototypes such as: snapfit designs, impellers, duct work, connectors and electronic covers, automotive housings and dashboard assemblies, packaging and sporting goods.
Somos® PerFORM (off white)– a fast processing stereolithography material resulting in strong, stiff and accurate parts with high feature resolution. Somos® PerFORM produces strong, stiff, high temperature resistant composite parts that are ideal for tooling, wind tunnel testing, high temperature testing, electrical casings, and automotive housing applications. With the lowest viscosity of any composite stereolithography material, parts made from Somos® PerFORM are faster to build, easier to post-process clean, possess superior sidewall quality and provide unmatched detail resolution. It is the ideal material for creating strong, stiff parts with excellent high heat resistance, including wind tunnel models for aerospace and automotive applications, as well as rapid tooling for injection molding. Somos® ProtoGen 18420 (white)– is a liquid, ABS-like, photopolymer that produces accurate parts ideal for general purpose applications. Somos® ProtoGen resins are the first stereolithography resins to demonstrate different material properties based on machine exposure control. Somos® ProtoGen 18420 offers superior chemical resistance, a wide processing latitude and excellent tolerance to a broad range of temperatures and humidity, both during and after the build. This high temperature resistant, ABS-like photopolymer is used in solid imaging processes, like stereolithography, to build three-dimensional parts. Somos® ProtoGen 18420 provides considerable processing latitude and is ideal for the medical, electronic, aerospace, and automotive markets that demand accurate RTV patterns, durable concept models, highly accurate, and humidity & temperature resistant parts.
Somos® ProtoTherm 12120 (red)– is a liquid photopolymer that produces strong, high temperature tolerant, water-resistant parts. Parts created with Somos® ProtoTherm 12120 have a cherry-red appearance which turns to an orange-red color after thermal treatment. Somos® ProtoTherm 12120 differentiates itself from other high temperature stereolithography materials by increasing in tensile strength and maintaining decent elongation at break after thermal treatment. This makes the material ideal for many applications in the automotive and aerospace markets where strong parts that can resist high temperatures are needed.
Somos® WaterClear Ultra 10122 (clear)– is a next generation optically clear resin with ABS-like properties and good temperature resistance. It produces colorless, functional, accurate parts that simulate an acrylic appearance. The parts also have improved water resistance over the original Somos® WaterClear 10120 resin. Somos® WaterClear Ultra is a fast, low viscosity, general-purpose resin. This high temperature resistant, ABS-like photopolymer is used in solid imaging processes, like stereolithography, to build three-dimensional parts. Somos® WaterClear Ultra is ideal for applications requiring optical clarity, such as automotive lenses, bottles, fluid flow analysis, packaging prototypes, light pipes and more. It can also be used for concept, functional models, and master patterns.
Somos® WaterShed XC 11122 (clear)– is a low viscosity liquid photopolymer that produces strong, tough, water-resistant, ABS-like parts. These parts are nearly colorless, and look like clear engineered plastic. They have outstanding water resistance and high dimensional stability. This ABS-like photopolymer is used in solid imaging processes, like stereolithography, to build three-dimensional parts. Somos® WaterShed XC 11122 offers many properties that mimic traditional engineering plastics, including ABS and PBT. This makes the material ideal for many applications in the automotive, medical, and consumer electronic markets and include lenses, packaging, water flow analysis, RTV patterns, durable concept models, wind tunnel testing and investment casting patterns.
