Corey Stark, an Inside Sales Representative at Curbell Plastics in San Diego, combines an extensive knowledge of plastic materials, metal alloys, and part fabrication techniques with his passion for customer service and developing lasting business relationships. In any engagement, he first seeks to find what the customer hopes to achieve before determining how best to help. His strong customer service background taught him how to get in tune with what’s important to customers by asking the right questions — and then truly listening to uncover what really matters most.
Corey joined Curbell Plastics in 2016, when Cal Plastics and Metals became part of this top-five distributor’s nationwide network of plastic materials distribution and fabrication centers. His career with Cal Plastics began in fabrication — his duties included bending, bonding, and packaging — which enables Corey to understand and articulate the full scope of what it takes to get a job done. Customers depend on this knowledge and appreciate the confidence with which he can provide recommendations. Corey frequently supports customers in the automotive, aerospace, agriculture, marine, and oil and gas industries.
He understands plastic material properties and how plastics often lower costs, reduce weight, and are easy to machine. Customers sometimes continue using a metal material if that’s what has always been done, but in many cases, it may be advantageous to convert from metal to a plastic material. It all depends on whether the benefits in terms of cost, efficiency, and weight work out positively for the project at hand.
Corey welcomes the challenge to explore with customers the intricacies of an application, the environment in which the component needs to perform, and the properties of the materials. They work together to help determine whether a plastic material could be more beneficial — and if so, which plastics are appropriate choices.
A Partner in Your Success
Corey’s hero is his father — a former military man and law enforcer turned pastor. “My dad taught me that to navigate life, you have to adapt in order to overcome obstacles,“ he says. ”It keeps you mentally tough, but also alerts you to the expected as well as the unexpected.”
His thirst for learning fuels his constant quest to find answers for customers, in order to make a difference for them. One of Corey’s first calls with Curbell turned into a prime example of his drive. The customer required color-matched ABS sheets for a unique military device. Corey’s month-long dedication to the project and understanding of the customer’s specifications kept the project on track and left the customer very happy with the end product.
Corey is a lifelong hockey player. He channels his love for the sport and his passion for making a difference in people’s lives into volunteer work in the Learn to Play Hockey Program sponsored by the Anaheim Ducks NHL franchise. The organization gives youths and adults who have never played hockey the opportunity to learn this exciting game. Learn to Play provides the head-to-toe equipment, the expense of which often acts as a barrier for many to enjoy the sport.
He has also participated in sled hockey, which he considers one of the most challenging activities he’s ever taken part in. Corey has great admiration and respect for those who participate, many of whom are former Navy Seals, for their mental and physical toughness in overcoming physical disabilities to hit the ice and play some competitive hockey.
