REDUCE - REUSE - RECYCLE
Environmental Policy
Curbell Plastics is committed to complying with environmental laws
and regulations, controlling and reducing our impact on the environment
and protecting our natural resources for future generations.
Leadership
As one of the nation’s premier suppliers of plastic sheet, rod, tube, film, adhesives, and prototyping materials, Curbell, again is leading our industry in new, innovative, and responsible ways. At Curbell we recognize the value of business sustainability and environmental responsibility. We also understand that contrary to popular belief, the responsible use of plastics can play a key role in helping businesses move closer to environmental sustainability.
Importance of Plastics
The plastics industry has been developing materials used to improve our lives ever since it's invention in 1862. Take a moment and look around, plastic is everywhere. From aerospace to food preservation, from implantable lifesaving devices to energy generating windmills, plastics make it all possible.
Plastics and Sustainability
Used in virtually every industry, plastic allows us to make products lighter, more durable, less expensive and with less of an impact on the environment than many traditional materials. Lighter planes and cars mean lower fuel consumption. Plastic's durability and flexibility helps us protect products from spoiling or damage during shipping. Can you imagine an appliance, computer or automobile without plastic?
Being Responsible
The key to plastic's environmental upside is reduce, reuse, and recycle. Recycling plastic reduces oil consumption and the amount of waste filling our landfills.
Curbell surpassed the 100 ton mark in 2009 and significantly reduced operational costs in doing so. On June 1, 2009 we achieved the distinction of ZERO LANDFILL at our Western New York facility and our corporate headquarters located in Orchard Park, NY.
In addition we are reducing waste and consumption through various activities and programs that include:
- Effective management systems and the implementation lean manufacturing practices
- Installing energy efficient HVAC, lighting, equipment, and appliances
- Timed equipment start ups, locking thermostats, and improved maintenance programs
- Partnering with service contractors, vendors, and customers on recycling and sustainability programs
- Formed a "Green Team" to identify company-wide initiatives and develop knowledge and offering of environmentally friendly materials and environmental best practices
